R&D Impact STEM Partners

ABC CREATE Led and coordinated by Penn State New Kensington with support from the Grable Foundation, the Arconic Foundation, and the participating school districts, ABC CREATE is an incubator of curriculum and of projects designed across K-12 education to bring to life the vision of being a change agent in the Alle-Kiski Valley by investing in the next generation of students through innovative STEAM education. ABC CREATE professional development experiences assist educators with the implementation of equity-centered teaching practices that integrate technologies and project-based learning, empower a technologically fluent generation through experiential learning opportunities, and provide a network of peers who inspire one another with their shared knowledge and enthusiasm for STEAM education. ABC CREATE’s partners include the Community Robotics, Education and Technology Empowerment Lab (CREATE Lab) at Carnegie Mellon University, BirdBrain Technologies, CodeJoy, the Consortium of Public Education, the Digital Foundry at New Kensington, community organizations and workforce partners.

Acera School is an independent K-10th Grade STEM immersion school in Winchester MA. Acera enables young people to have a runway that fits their potential and works to develop next generation scientists, innovators, and leaders. Acera is a microcosm of what is possible for all schools providing early and deep exposure to STEM topics and innovative fields, practice in creative and complex thinking and problem-solving, and opportunities to learn that align with students’ passions and capacities. Acera also offers flexible ability groupings in math and reading, allowing students to work at their own pace and engage in learning and discussion with like-ability peers. AceraEI is an outward-facing program bringing the best of Acera programming and expertise to public school and after-school settings, integrating STEM and planting the seeds for transformational change in schools.

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), works to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. In San Francisco, BGCSF runs programs in 13 Clubhouses and School-Based Clubs across the City. At the Don Fisher Clubhouse, BGCSF is proud to offer programs that fit members' diverse interests, including academic support, STEM enrichment and tinkering, BGCSF Swim Academy, and the Notes for Notes music studio. 

Digital Foundry at New Kensington is a state-of-the-art hub for future-readiness in the Pittsburgh region, helping to improve lives and strengthen businesses in the region through access to digital technologies and future-ready skills. As an initiative of Penn State New Kensington and the Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland County, the mission of the Digital Foundry is to partner with manufacturing companies, educators and the workforce to accelerate economic growth and competitiveness using digital technologies and data-driven decision making. The Digital Foundry is committed to helping equip educators and students with the awareness and resources needed to empower a digitally-fluent generation through hands-on learning, access to technologies and industry experts, student and industry demonstration projects, internships and more.

Up On Top provides high-quality, tuition-free after-school programs for students from low-income families in grades K-5 in San Francisco's Tenderloin and Western Addition neighborhoods. Up On Top creates a community environment with its diverse, dedicated staff, students, families, partner organizations and neighbors. It offers a well-rounded curriculum, including daily academic work, enrichment opportunities (arts, science, dance, writing workshop, acrobatics, etc.), recreational activities and neighborhood field trips. Up On Top is located at the Tenderloin Recreation Center on Ellis Street in the heart of the neighborhood. Staff safely escort kids from Tenderloin Community School and Redding Elementary School to the program site and serve a meal and a snack each day.  

Tenderloin Community School (TCS) is a unique PreK-5th Grade public elementary school in downtown San Francisco with community resources located right on the school complex. The school is made up of a District Child Development Center for 3 and 4 year olds, the K-5 elementary school, and community resources including a dental clinic. The mission of TCS is to create a learning community where teachers, staff, families, community members, and children work collaboratively to foster academic excellence, encourage children to reach their full potential, create critical thinkers through an integrated, hands-on curriculum, and foster joyful learning in an environment that encourages child-centered experiences. With the generous support of the Bay Area Women's and Children Center (BAWCC), TCS provides culturally responsive instruction & supports so that all students will be successful independent learners.
